Needlestick Injuries among Nurses in Selangor Public Hospital, Malaysia

Background: Needlestick injuries (NSIs) are one of the greatest risks nurses face. NSIs associated with an increased risk diseases that can be transferred through skin exposure, such as Hepatitis B, C, and human immunodeficiency virus. Certain factors influence mechanism frequency NSI among nurses. Objective: To determine mechanisms at a public hospital in Selangor. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from April to September 2020. total 233 were conveniently sampled questionnaire distributed capture data on socio-demographic characteristics, frequency, NSI. The inferential statistics using SPSS 22. Results: Of respondents, incidence rate 23.6%. Most cases occurred during morning shift (12.4%), most common action recapping needles (6.9%). Factors gender, age, ward, working experience. Conclusion: prevalence is relatively low this study. However, should still apply universal precautions prevent NSIs. Several influenced highlighted nursing management its incidence.
